Empowering you to live well, feel strong, and thrive
Forget the 10,000-step rule. A major new study published in The Lancet Public Health shows that 7,000 steps a day is enough to significantly improve your health.
Key Highlights
• 47% lower risk of early death if you walk 7,000 steps a day compared to just 2,000.
• 25% lower risk of heart disease.
• Up to 37% lower risk of cancer death.
• Walking more also reduces the risk of type 2 diabetes, dementia, depression, and falls.
The study looked at data from over 35 large studies and found that health benefits rise sharply up to around 7,000 steps a day, but going beyond that shows only small extra benefits for most people. In other words, you do not need 10,000 steps to stay healthy, every step counts.
Tips to Get Moving
• Start by adding 500–1,000 extra steps each day.
• Take short walking breaks during work.
• Walk while talking on the phone or after meals.
Bottom line: Aim for 7,000 steps a day but remember any amount of walking is better than none.
